This month we are excited to share with you some music matchups!
Oftentimes, it’s difficult to find new music to enjoy so we are offering up some suggestions based on the albums we’ve reviewed this past year.
If you liked Rend Collective and All Sons & Daughters, you might enjoy Bryan and Katie Torwalt. They are a married couple who began as a part of Jesus Culture, a ministry based out of Sacramento, California. Here on Earth, their first album as a duo, was released in 2011. It was followed by Kingdom Come, which was released last year. Their sound can be described as folky and soulful, filled with sweet harmonies and worshipful melodies. Check them out on Pandora.
If Crowder is more your style, you might enjoy Needtobreathe. This alternative rock band, based out of Seneca, South Carolina, is comprised of brothers Bear (lead vocalist, guitar, and keys) and Bo (background vocals and guitar) Rinehart with bassist and background vocalist Seth Bolt. Their southern roots can be heard in the mandolins that play in tandem with the guitars. This trio, who has been making music since 2006, is unique because their music can be found on both Christian and secular charts, without compromising their talent, integrity, or values. If you prefer Young & Free, you might also enjoy Jesus Culture. As mentioned above, Jesus Culture is a youth-oriented ministry and record label based out of Bethel Church in Sacramento. Similar to Passion and Hillsong, they host conferences and produce live recordings of the worship. Their worship leaders, including Chris Quilala, Kim Walker-Smith, and Andrew Ehrenzeller, are powerful and anointed and their hearts are to connect young people with God through the intimacy of worship. Unstoppable Love is their most recent album, released this past January and, as its name suggests, “This album brings with it the unstoppable love of God that is stirring in our hearts in this hour.” Check out this sneak peek of the bonus feature, Heart Behind the Album from the Unstoppable Love album.
If you like City Harbor, you might enjoy Britt Nicole. She’s a CCM artist from Charlotte, North Carolina, who began singing gospel songs in her grandfather’s church as a young girl. In 2006, Sparrow Records signed her, and since then she has released three full-length albums, the most recent of which is Gold in 2012. I had the privilege of meeting Britt Nicole at a concert recently, and I can honestly say that her heart for young people to know the Truth is as evident off-stage as it was on-stage. Not only do her vocals give you chills, but her poignant, authoritative addresses to the audience in between songs speak life to a generation that is being bombarded by lies. Like Needtobreathe, Britt’s music crosses the Christian and secular boundaries, and brings a refreshing message to a world that desperately needs to hear the truth. Find her Pandora channel HERE.
